Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that their new XUV300-based EV will go on sale in early 2023. We have spotted this future electric car a few times on Indian roads with a full-body disguise, and the most recent spy image sheds a little camouflage from over the taillights, allowing us a brief glimpse at the redesigned design.
According to some sources, M&M may call the XUV300-based EV the ‘XUV400.’ The Mahindra XUV400 would most likely have a few more amenities than the ICE-powered XUV300. For the time being, the powertrain specs are unknown, although recent reports suggested it could come in two versions: standard and long-range.
The LED taillights will have updated lighting elements while maintaining the same outward shape. The tailgate appears to be the same as before, although, being fully obscured here, the rear bumper might be unique. Overall, the style of the XUV400 EV will be like that of the present ICE variant.
M&M has stated that the electric version, unlike the sub-4-metre ICE variant, will be 4.2 metres long. This is because there are no tax breaks for EVs under 4 metres long. This could imply that the electric version will have more boot space, which is the most common complaint about the present XUV300.
Interestingly, the ICE-powered Mahindra XUV300 will get a facelift early next year, with the design modifications seen on the incoming XUV400 perhaps making their way to the XUV300. The 1.2L mStallion petrol engine (with a projected peak power of 130 PS) will also be available on the redesigned XUV300.
On release, Mahindra will most likely offer the XUV400 between Rs. 15 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It would compete with the Tata Nexon EV, which is now offered in two trim levels: regular and ‘Max.’ MG Motor is apparently developing a new compact electric SUV for the Indian market that will compete with the XUV400.
