The Mahindra XUV700 is the company’s most successful product to date. Mahindra cannot keep up with demand as it grows in popularity by the day. According to the sales figures, it only sells around 6,000 units per month. The waiting continues to grow, with new bookings increasing at a rate of about 9-10k per month. The XUV700 has a ridiculously long waiting list of up to two years for certain variants.
Besides managing production and deliveries, Mahindra recently issued a recall for XUV700 AWD models. This is the first time Mahindra has recalled the XUV700. The XUV700 has AWD variants with diesel engines, and only these AWD variants have been recalled, not the rest of the variant lineup.
The XUV700 is available with two engine options. A 2.0L petrol engine and a 2.2L diesel engine are available. On lower variants, the diesel engine produces 153 bhp at 3750 rpm and 360 Nm of peak torque at 1500 rpm, while higher variants produce 182 bhp at 3500 rpm and 420 Nm of maximum torque at 1600 rpm coupled with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission.
We do not yet know the exact number of vehicles affected by this recall. However, Mahindra has issued it as a critical service action. The propeller shaft that connects the engine to the rear axle is said to be at fault and is the reason for this recall. Customers who own one of the aforementioned AWD variants should take their vehicle to a Mahindra service centre as soon as possible.
When the vehicle arrives at the service station, the service team will inspect the bolts that hold the propeller shaft in place. If the bolts need to be replaced after the inspection, they will be. Mahindra has not specified what may have occurred. However, because this recall was issued as a critical service action, we can speculate that it could have been something major. There have been no incidents that can be traced back to and linked to this recall. Mahindra most likely acted before something went wrong.
