Maruti Suzuki unveiled the eVX SUV concept, the brand’s showpiece at the Auto Expo 2023. The Maruti Suzuki eVX concept foreshadows the company’s first all-electric SUV. It is codenamed YV8 and will be available in 2025. It will be the company’s response to the upcoming Creta EV. Creta EV is also expected to hit the market around the same time.
The first set of details confirms that its new electric SUV will be built on a dedicated EV architecture. This new platform will be developed in collaboration with Toyota. This new platform will give birth to a “range of future full-EV models” in the coming years. The Maruti YV8 SUV will be manufactured in Gujarat and sold in a few international markets.
The eVX concept debuted with a new design language that stands out from Maruti’s current IC engine lineup. The Maruti eVX concept has a flat nose and a tall bonnet with squarish looks up front. V-shaped headlamps with unique LED daytime running lamp signatures, and a blanked-off grille.
The SUV concept has very short overhangs, a high ground clearance, and bulging wheel arches. Rugged cladding runs across the sides, front, and back. The sloping roofline blends with the raked rear windscreen and tailgate, giving it a coupe-SUV appearance. The alloy wheels resemble Tesla’s aero-style wheel design. The low-profile tyres will most likely be replaced by more conventional ones.
This new eVX SUV concept will have a 60kWh battery and a range of approximately 550km. There will also be an entry-level model with a smaller battery of around 48kWh and a real-world range of around 400km. Suzuki Motor Corporation has committed Rs 100 billion to battery electric vehicle production in India.
