Maruti Suzuki Hikes Prices in India: Maruti has announced a price hike of up to INR 17,000 for its entire lineup. As every car manufacturer has announced a price hike from January 2018, the effect of price change on Maruti cars are immediate.
They have claimed rise in administrative as well as manufacturing cost for this rise. Foreign exchange rates also had a slight effect on this rise. Previous price hike (in 2017) resulted in up to INR 9000 or price rise.
The brand is yet to announce the model wise breakup for their prices. Entry level Baleno now costs INR 5.36 lakh while yesterday, it was priced at INR 5.27 lakh.
The range of Maruti cars still start from Alto 800 and goes up to Maruti Ciaz in the Nexa lineup of cars. Buyers were first concentrated around the entry level cars of Maruti while recent trends have shown that buyers have turned into the other direction and love buying cars that cost around INR 8-10 lakh, on-road.
Highest selling cars from Maruti includes the compact sedan Dzire, entry level Alto hatchback and compact SUV Vitara Brezza. From Nexa’s side, Baleno is the highest selling product, followed by Ciaz for the second spot.
The rise in cost may not affect their sales in general as others have also hiked the prices in same sort of ratio. Still, few cars could now feel more expensive in front of brands like Tata as their Nexon, Tiago and Tigor combo has been aggressively priced for their segments. Maruti Suzuki has retained its number one position from a long time in India.
