Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sierra has been spotted testing in India for the first time along the Kundli-Manesar expressway, which is very close to the company’s manufacturing plant. The 3-door international-spec model of the compact SUV has been spotted which was initially showcased at the Auto Expo back in February 2020. As per some of the recent reports, along with the 5-door version, Maruti Suzuki may also consider launching the 3-door model in India to compete with the likes of the recently-launched 2021 Mahindra Thar. Here are the live photos of the Jimny Sierra:
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sierra Spotted Testing in India
Launching the Jimny Sierra as the replacement for the Maruti Gypsy would be one of the wisest decisions from the brand to target the entry-level compact SUV segment in the Indian market that is currently conquered by the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, and Honda WR-V.
The India-spec model of the Jimny (New Gypsy) is expected to feature similar designing as well as mechanical bits when compared to the international-spec variants though the wheelbase is expected to be longer to accommodate the extra doors. The front bumper has a large air intake which is blacked-out, just like the outside rear-view mirrors. The wheel arches are flared, enhancing the mini-SUV stance further
One can expect the Maruti Suzuki Jimny to be launched at a starting ex-showroom price tag of around INR 10 lakhs and it will be sold in the Indian markets via the NEXA chain of dealerships. The off-road compact SUV will be powered by the 105HP/138Nm K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine that currently powers the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza facelift, Ertiga, XL6 and Ciaz. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as an optional 4-speed automatic transmission.
