Lifestyle off-roaders, once thought to be extinct, are regaining popularity. Lifestyle off-roaders were popularised by Mahindra Thar in 2020 and they are now a mainstream option due to Maruti Suzuki, which will soon debut a 5-door version of the Jimny in India.
Jimny squares off against Mahindra Thar and as of now, Thar is still in its three-door form. The Thar 5-door variant is being developed by Mahindra and it is scheduled for launch later this year or early next year. Official bookings for Maruti Suzuki Jimny have begun, with the launch scheduled for May 2023.
Despite the fact that it has already been revealed, testing appears to be incomplete. New spy photos of the Maruti Jimny 5 door with red registration plates have surfaced on the internet. These are the first unmasked spy images of the Maruti Jimny 5 door since its debut at the Auto Expo.
This is the Zeta AT variant. The top variation, Alpha, was on display at the Auto Expo. Maruti will only offer the Jimny in two variants: Zeta and Alpha. Both will be available with manual or automatic transmissions. All models will come equipped with AWD.
The Maruti Jimny Zeta model lacks some amenities that the top Alpha variant will have. It will have steel wheels rather than alloys and it comes with a 7-inch touchscreen and four speakers. The 5-door Jimny gets a ladder-frame chassis and a 4X4 transfer case. Thanks to 50 years of Gypsy and Jimny tradition. The AllGrip Pro incorporates low-range gear to help you crawl out of sticky conditions.
The 1.5L NA 4-cylinder engine produces 104.8 horsepower and 134.2 Newton meters of torque. This engine is linked to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter. With Thar’s costs currently starting at Rs. 9.99 lakhs for a 1.5L diesel with RWD, Jimny’s prices are expected to be around Rs. 10 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom).
