Nissan Compact SUV Announced; India Launch in September 2020

Nissan Compact SUV Officially Announced: The compact SUV market in India is growing at a faster pace with major car brands investing their profits in the development of India-specific products. Nissan too has joined the race and has announced a compact SUV to be launched sometime by September 2020. The brand has unveiled the first teaser of its upcoming compact SUV at an event in Delhi which will ultimately compete in the market with the likes of Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue and Ford EcoSport.

Considering the recently revealed teaser image, the upcoming SUV from Nissan will feature a crossover design language with a floating roof and a dual-tone colour scheme. The SUV is inspired by the Nissan Kicks while differs from the upright positioned SUVs like Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue. Some reports also suggest the brand to offer the Nissan Juke-inspired design language which is currently available in the international markets.

The brand is expected to base the upcoming Nissan SUV with similar mechanical bits as that of the upcoming Renault HBC which is expected to be unveiled by the brand in late 2020. The SUV will be further based on the CMF-A platform that is the underlying platform for the current-gen Triber.

Commenting on the plans to unveil the compact SUV, Rakesh Srivastava, managing director, Nissan Motor India, said, “We would like to increase our commitment to the Indian market and we look forward to making Nissan the primary brand in the Indian market with multiple new premium products to going to come under the Nissan brand. Datsun, however, will continue to be part of the entire product portfolio and we will strengthen the value proposition of the Datsun products and will bring features, for instance, the CVT automatic transmission as one of the technologies for which we find a good opportunity in India.”
