Skoda has launched the 2017 Rapid in India, starting with a price tag of INR 8.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The facelift for Rapid now uses new headlights, revised bumpers and Skoda’s traditional front grille. It is current sold in Active, Ambition and Style variants, ranging between INR 8.27 lakh – INR 11.36 lakh for the petrol model and INR 9.48 lakh – INR 12.67 lakh for the diesel model. It is the most effective update since its launch in India from 2011.

The changes are mostly at the front, now carrying a sharper look and sportier attitude than the older generation Rapid. The headlights are now more with the 2016 trend of cars while the grill comes with chrome outline for enhanced looks. The bumper is new with wider airdam and fog lights within the Black finished lower grill. The side and rear profile gets nearly no changes while the overall design is now more in line with the Octavia and Superb.
The car uses the same 1.5 L TDI motor but now uses a different turbocharger, producing 108 HP @ 4000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1500-3000 rpm. The gearbox options on the same are 5-speed manual as well as 7-speed DSG. Rapid returns 21.13 kmpl for the manual version while automatic claims 21.72 kmpl.
Rapid also comes with the same 1.6 MPI petrol motor producing 103 BHP. It comes mated to 5-speed manual as well as 6-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox. The car returns a claimed mileage of 15.41 kmpl with manual gearbox while automatic returns 14.84 kmpl. It competes with Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento.
The car comes with attractive features like automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system with Mirrorlink, USB and AUX, Bluetooth connectivity, Navigation, automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers. The safety is taken care by ABS with EBD and dual front airbags being standard on the car. The car now comes with 460 liters of boot space.
It measures 4413 mm in length, 1699 mm in width and 1466 mm in height. It features dual tone interiors with perfectly placed dashboard angle. Other safety features on the car includes Hill Hold Control, Electronic Stability Program, LED front DRL’s, rear parking sensors and automatically dimming inside rear view mirror. It comes with dual adjustable rear AC vents, cruise control and many more comfort enhancing features.
