Tata Motors in an interaction with the shareholders at the company’s 74th Annual Greet revealed their plans for their four upcoming electric vehicles that will be launched in India in the coming 18 months. The upcoming electric vehicles include all-electric Tata Nexon and the upcoming Tata Altroz hatchback in addition to updated Tigor EV and the fourth undisclosed model.
The electric version of the compact SUV is likely to be based on the underpinnings of the Tigor EV. Powering the all-electric Tata Nexon will be a lithium-ion battery pack that will replace the fuel tank. The battery specifications and tech will be based on the upcoming Altroz EV and the brand will be offering the Nexon EV with both AC and DC fast charging capabilities.
The compact SUV is expected to target a range of 250-300km on a full charge of battery just like the Altroz EV. Both the upcoming EVs are expected to change the course of electric vehicles in India with this kind of range.
Though there are no certain estimations offered by the brand on the prices of their upcoming electric vehicles, one can expect the Tata Altroz EV to get a price tag of INR 10 lakh. On the other hand, the brand is likely to keep a competitive price tag for the Nexon EV while keeping it in close comparison to its diesel and petrol counterparts.
Coming to the facelifted Tigor EV to be launched shortly, the brand is likely to update its currently running EV with a larger battery pack and an updated powertrain, enhanced to offer a range above 180km. The updates to be offered on the Tigor EV will be specifically based on the customer concerns regarding its lack of performance and better range. Unlike the currently available Tigor EV, the updated version will also be made available to the larger public sector.
Once launched in India, the all-electric Tata Nexon EV will compete in the market with the likes of the upcoming all-electric version of the Mahindra XUV 300 compact SUV.
