It’s Official: Tata Altroz India Launch in the 2nd Half of this Year

Tata Altroz is the official name for the premium hatchback that will make its world debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show next month. The car will launch in India in the 2nd half of this year (July/August), leaving fans with enough time to consider their preferences for a hatchback of this size from the brand. Tata Altroz is based on the 45X concept revealed at the Auto Expo last year.

The recently spotted example was completely camouflaged, offering a glimpse of the front as well as side profile and clearly showing the interior class-leading features of the car. The well-balanced profile with decent window size and raised overall stance is quite attractive, further flaunting extended tail section with wraparound lights and raised bumper.

The four-spoke alloy wheels split into eight while joining the outer side and rear door takes slight inspiration from other Tata cars in terms of design. The headlights are slim and loaded with projectors with chrome rings. The front fascia is more like a Tiago with a stretched smile, resulting in less than the usual curve and not a typical Tata car smile.

The lower section is heavily camouflaged, hiding the fog light section completely and deforming the lower grille shape successfully. The tires are well sized and so are the wheel arches. The wheelbase looks healthy, with Tata cleverly enjoying every millimetre of the under the 4-meter limit with lower taxes.

The powerful 1.2L, turbocharged engine under the hood of Tigor JTP can serve as the petrol motor here while diesel is expected to stay the same as Nexon. Even the petrol motor from Nexon is quite impressive and perfect for a premium hatchback. Tata is working on an automatic gearbox for the new car while 6-speed manual will stay as standard on the Nexon-sourced engines.

Rivals for Tata Altroz includes Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz, and the Hyundai i20. The semi-digital instrument console with a mirroring display for navigation, music and other app options is the highlight of the premium car and undoubtedly, the first to feature in this segment. Tata Altroz is expected to get a starting price tag of around INR 5.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
