The upcoming seven-seater SUV from the Indian brand, the Tata Gravitas has been recently spotted testing on the Indian roads. The car has been seen on the Indian roads on multiple occasions though, the crash test mule of the SUV shown in the images is the very first for the Indian roads. Since Tata’s portfolio is known to offer its passengers with utmost safety, one can expect the Tata Gravitas to feature state-of-the-art premium safety kit.
According to the new vehicle safety laws, all the upcoming vehicles have to pass the stringent safety tests defined by the Indian government to make their way to the customers. The Tata Gravitas seen in the images has been coated with bright orange shade for the analytics team to distinguish it easily as well as carry out rear time assessments with ease.
The Tata Gravitas is based on the Harrier SUV though features a seven-seat setup. The brand has equipped the SUV with more headroom for the third row which ultimately offers it a more upright look when compared to the Harrier. The Tata Gravitas measures 4,661mm in length, 1,894mm in width and 1,786mm in height. The bran has based the upcoming Gravitas on the OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) architecture similar to the one offered on the Tata Harrier.
Powering the upcoming SUV is a BS6 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that is capable of generating 170HP of maximum power and a peak torque of 350Nm. The engine is mated to 6-speed manual gearbox while the brand will also offer an optional 6-speed torque-convertor automatic gearbox. Once launched in India, the Tata Gravitas is expected to get a higher price tag than the current-gen Tata Harrier which is currently available at a starting price tag of INR 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
