The first production unit of Tata Nexon recently rolled out of Tata Motors Ranjangaon plant. The sub 4 meter SUV will be first of its kind in the company lineup, ready to reach showrooms before its official launch around the festive season. The entry of new design language and products like Tiago & Tigor has given Tata Motors a second chance to survive in the Indian automobile market.
Nexon may continue the same wave and carve out a good chunk of number from Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza. Buyers are much more attentive these days and they even prefer shifting brands if their preferred brand shows no sign of evolution with passing years.
Tata Nexon seems a premium product with two impressive set of engines on offer. The 1198 cc, three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is good for 110 HP at 5000 rpm and 170 Nm at 2000-4000 rpm. On the other hand, diesel engine on the Nexon is 1496 cc, four cylinder unit producing 110 HP at 3750 rpm and 260 Nm at 1500-2750 rpm.
This makes Nexon the most powerful SUV of its segment as others are nothing more than raised hatchbacks with same engines and almost the same performance. Both these engines are equipped with 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.
Additional features on Nexon includes 6.5 inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual tone exterior, high quality interior and three riding modes namely Eco, City and Sport. Most of the sales part depends on its pricing, which we can safely assume to fall between INR 7-10 lakh.
Tata Motors won’t lose the chance and may offer an even more mouth watering base price as they did with Tiago. Nexon’s coupe like design makes it the most effective car of its segment, indirectly challenging the likes of Mahindra TUV 300 also. Tata Motors will launch an AMT equipped version of Nexon after few months of the manual variant launch.
