Tata Punch Beats Mahindra XUV300; Becomes the Safest Car in India

Tata recently launched the Punch Micro SUV in the Indian car market and, being a Tata Motors car, there is always an extra emphasis on safety. The GNCAP car crash test details were leaked online a few days back, but now they have been revealed officially by the Global NCAP itself. And proving the leaked information true, the Tata Punch scored a 5-star safety rating, which makes it the safest affordable car in the country.

Earning 16.45 points in adult safety and 40.89 points in child safety, Tata Punch has beaten the Mahindra XUV300, Tata Altroz and Tata Nexon. Earlier, the XUV300 was the safest car in India, with a rating of 16.42 in adult safety and 37.44 points in child safety.

Talking about the adult safety report, the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck protection were evaluated as good. The micro SUV provided enough protection for the driver’s knees, which should be safe even in the event of a severe accident. The driver and passenger’s chest protection is rated good.

Furthermore, the driver’s tibias were adequate while the passenger’s tibias were adequate and good protected. Also, the car comes with a seat belt reminder feature for the driver and passenger as standard. Moreover, the micro SUV passed the UN95 side impact test. Even the footwell area was evaluated as sturdy, earning the Punch a complete five stars.

Looking forward to child safety, the ISOFIX-secured rear-facing child seats prevented excessive forward movement and provided enough protection to the three-year-old and 1.5-year-old child dummies’ heads and chests. The ISOFIX marking is standard in the SUV, and the rear centre occupant is restrained by a lap belt, earning four stars in this section.

The Punch gets plenty of features for high-level passenger safety, like dual airbags as standard, a reverse parking camera, auto headlamps, a fortified cabin, rain-sensing wipers, ABS and EBD with breakaway control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and many more.
