Hesitation from buying a used car is pretty common in India. We mostly rely on non-structured sources to buy a used car and that is actually the fact that shape our opinion for the entire used car market. Think once about how carefully you drive your car and keep everything under check even after years of driving. Now relate the same to others who follow the same routine and keep their car in brand new condition even after 2-3 years of use. This is the point where potential of used car market falls in India.

As many other global markets, India is quantity based nation with huge demand for cars that fall under a certain limit. The majority of sales, whether it be a new car or a used car, fall right under INR 10 lakh. Making things much more easier than before, here are top 10 used cars that you can buy in India under INR 10 lakh. The cars considered here will have odometer readings under 1 lakh kilometers and age less than or equal to five years.

1) Toyota Innova: The perfect MPV, Innova is a brilliant workhorse that can munch few hundred kilometers without breaking a sweat. The version mentioned here was powered by 2.5 liter, four cylinder diesel engine producing 101 BHP at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm at 1400 rpm. Those looking for a wagon that can take you anywhere in India with 6 other members of your family will surely love Innova.

2) Mahindra XUV500: Another 7 seater on the list, XUV500 is everything that Innova misses from its character. The design is appealing while engine has 140 BHP and 330 Nm on its side for stunning performance. It even comes with AWD option but getting that under INR 10 lakh has the least probability. Still, XUV500 is another great car to consider if travelling with family is your sole purpose.

3) Toyota Corolla Altis: If you feel a sedan will suit your personality, going for Corolla Altis can be one excellent option under INR 10 lakh. Toyota trust and premium interior will keep you always happy while low service cost and easy availability of parts will ensure a stress free ownership experience. It’s even an excellent option when mileage is your priority.

4) Honda City: One of the best selling product of all time, Honda City is a reliable used car that falls under INR 10 lakh. Choosing an engine is not a problem as driving requirements will help you select the one with more mileage or the one with more power easily. It’s still more popular with 1.5 liter, four cylinder petrol motor.

5) Hyundai Verna: Verna is one great option as it comes with the same 1.6 liter diesel engine as Hyundai Creta. Performance was never an issue with this car as 265 Nm of torque is enough to propel this diesel mini rocket to three digit figures. Those who drive less can even opt for the powerful petrol engine with decent mileage that costs almost INR 1-1.5 lakh lower than the diesel version.

6) Mahindra Scorpio: One of the toughest option available under INR 10 lakh, top spec Scorpio is feature loaded and comes with AWD. That makes it the best choice for those who plan rough road trips quite frequently. It can even be bought in Getaway attire for a huge open deck at the rear.

7) Hyundai i20: If hatchback is your preference, the first name you will hear is Hyundai i20. Elegance flows through its veins and one can choose between multiple available engines on this car. As brand new i20 costs under INR 10 lakh, it can even be bought under half that price with least number of kilometers on the odometer.

8) Mahindra Bolero: Bolero is another rough car that one could consider under INR 10 lakh. Even when you buy a 6-month old Bolero, you save a lot of money. The popularity of Bolero went down due to cars like Vitara Brezza and EcoSport but still, none of them can beat this tough wagon over places where actually finding roads become difficult.

9) Maruti Swift: Swift is a hot cake in Indian used market. When it comes to Swift in terms of falling prices, one could easily get a top spec car for around INR 5 lakh. Getting a petrol engine is even more cheaper and that too be much lesser number on the odometer than the diesel version. Same scenario comes for compact sedan Maruti Dzire.

10) Maruti Alto: Alto may not feel like an expensive option before all others but volume of Alto’s being sold in used market is much higher than others. The top spec K10 variant that is used less than 1 year can be bought for INR 3 lakh. Higher resale makes it easy for the owner to switch to a different car from both Alto variants.
