October 2018 proved fatal for the compact sedans, with even best-sellers facing downfall from the numbers registered last year. Maruti Dzire, the best selling model of all time in this segment, scored 17,404 units in October 2018. The car was good for 20,610 units last year and witnessed a downfall of 16%. Honda Amaze was the second best seller with 5,542 units, getting direct 200% hike in numbers. This happened as the model was preparing for a facelift and buyers preferred waiting for the present generation model. Hyundai Xcent scored a decent number but still fell into the falling trap with 3143 units. The drop was 10% in comparison to the number last year.
The fourth spot was bagged by Tata Tigor with 2927 units, getting 50% growth from the 1945 units that were sold last year. Tata is getting clean benefits of the modern design lines, scoring winning streak for not just the Tigor but also Tiago, Nexon and Hexa. Ford Aspire got the fifth position with 2520 units, bringing hope into the brand value with 16% overall growth. The best-seller list missed Ameo and Zest, both getting a number smaller than four-digit benchmark in the country.
The compact sedans are clashing with full length sedans at one point or the other. The top-spec model of Dzire is priced closer to the base variant of Ciaz, which in itself is well loaded and offers a lot more space. Honda Amaze had a great time for the first few months of its launch but soon, the numbers started falling from the five-digit segment. Hyundai Xcent is a popular option with cab operators while Tigor and Aspire promote value for money through their variants.
