Tesla Model 3 Rival Hyundai IONIQ 6 Electric Sedan Unveiled

Hyundai has unveiled the Ioniq 6 electric sedan, the third member of the company’s Ioniq EV family, following the retro-styled Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover and the Ioniq hatchback. In 2020, the sleek and ultra-low Prophecy concept foreshadowed the sedan.

Hyundai’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language, as seen on its other products, is carried over to the Ioniq 6. Unlike the Ioniq 5, the 6 has a more aerodynamically focused single curve silhouette that, according to Hyundai, helps to optimise efficiency with a drag coefficient of 0.21.

The EV’s sides have flush door handles and cameras instead of traditional wing mirrors. The electric sedan gets pixel-style LED tail lights, a ducktail rear spoiler, and a curved shoulder line, just like the concept. Inside, the Ioniq 6 has a flat centre console, as seen on other EVs from the brand and the Genesis GV60 sold in other markets. The dashboard is simple, with two 12-inch touchscreens and a two-spoke steering wheel.

The E-GMP skateboard architecture, which also underpins the Kia EV6, is used in the Ioniq 6. Hyundai has yet to reveal the EV’s full technical specifications, but it’s expected to come standard with the same 800V hardware that supports up to 350kW of fast charging. The Ioniq 6 will also be available with batteries ranging in capacity from 58kWh to 77.4kWh, with the former providing an expected range of over 482 Km.

The company also provides two powertrain options: a single motor with rear-wheel drive and a dual-motor with four-wheel drive. There will be a 229 hp RWD entry-level model, a 325 hp mid-tier 4WD option, and a range-topping 585 hp Ioniq 6 ‘N’ with a claimed 0 to 100 km/h time of fewer than 3.5 seconds.
