Samsung Beats OnePlus in India: According to a recent report by BGR, Samsung has regained the top spot in the Indian premium smartphone segment after losing out to the Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus for three quarters in a row.
The top three premium brands including Samsung, OnePlus, and Apple are accounted for 90% of the premium segment shipments in the 1st quarter of 2019 as compared to 95% in the 1st quarter of 2018. However, the OnePlus 6T still remains as the best-selling premium smartphone in Q1 2019. Samsung’s S10 series is the reason that the brand has been able to grab the title of the #1 premium smartphone brand in India.
Samsung India’s director, Mobile business, Aditya Babbar said: “With Galaxy S10, we offered consumers an incredible experience that is tailored to their everyday needs. Galaxy S10’s industry-first features have been well received by our consumers and it’s no surprise that we have consolidated our number 1 position in the premium segment”.
Also, the Research analyst from Mobile devices at Counterpoint, Karan Chauhan said that: “The success of Galaxy S10 series and OnePlus 6T highlights the trend of an expansion of the premium segment in India.”
According to the data released by GfK, Samsung had a 76.5% volume market share and 77% value market share in the above INR 30,000 price segment in March 2019. It is being said that the 3 out of 4 smartphones sold in the premium mobile phone segment during March were Galaxy S10 smartphones.
Counterpoint research shows that if Apple starts production in India, they can reduce the price of the iPhones by up to 20%, which can help them gain traction. OnePlus recently launched the 7 and 7 Pro in India with a starting price tag of INR 32,999 and INR 48,999 respectively.
