Based on Hyundai’s upcoming 4th gen Verna, we can expect for Honda City’s MY2023 to borrow features from its Hybrid counterpart. The newly launched facelift is the hope from Honda to keep its dominance in the mid size sedan segment. The 2023 City base petrol MT City facelift is priced at Rs. 11.49 lakh and the City hybrid ZX is shown at Rs. 20.39 lakh. This increases the cost of a new City by up to Rs.35,000.
The changes in the City facelift are very subtle; most things in the new City are similar. They have focused more on introducing new features and technology into this segment. Honda has made the most significant changes to its front bumper. Faux carbon fibre bits of composites are used in the front and rear bumpers.
The Honda City was already a feature-rich sedan, it had a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob. It had padded door pads, an auto-dimming IRVM, and ORVMs. An 8” infotainment system, a digital instrument console, automatic climate control, and a sunroof, are some of the existing features of the popular sedan.
With the facelift, Honda has included its Sensing Suite of camera based ADAS technology. The IRVM hosts Honda’s camera unit below it. Automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blindspot monitoring and lane change assist are included in the ADAS. The camera for lane change assist underneath the left ORVM is left in place, as is the case before.
However, RDE standards take effect on March 31, 2023 and Honda has discontinued diesel powertrains. The max power of 120 hp and peak torque of 145 Nm is created by a single 1.5L NA petrol engine. The BS6 compliant version of engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or CVT transmission. The 2023 model is said to give a claimed fuel efficiency of around 18 km/l. It also offers a powerful hybrid, something which is a segment first and has a promised mileage of more than 26 km/l.
