According to recent reports, the BS4 vehicle registration deadline is expected to be extended for the automobile dealerships in the Indian markets. Since the nationwide lockdown to curb the coronavirus has been extended by the officials till May 3, 2020, the previously provided April 30 deadline by the Supreme Court to register the BS4 vehicles is expected to be extended further.
On April 14, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation, increased the nationwide lockdown till May 3, 2020. The petition filed by Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) and other authorities to the Supreme Court for the extension of BS4 deadline was ruled in the favour of manufactures which allowed them to register their unregistered BS4 inventory till April 30, 2020.
Since now the lockdown has been extended till May 3 which is the date the manufacturers are expected to open their gates, the BS4 vehicle registration deadline extension is the need of the hour. As per the reports, there are 1,05,000 BS4 two-wheelers, 2,250 BS4 passenger vehicles and 2,000 BS4 commercial vehicles that have been sold by the dealerships before the lockdown but are still required to be registered.
As far as the sales of the BS4 vehicles are concerned, the Supreme Court has permitted the manufacturers to sell 10% of their remaining BS4 inventory within just 10 days post the lockdown and the decision will remain the same.
So if the nationwide lockdown will lift on May 3, 2020, the dealerships or manufacturers would be allowed to sell their BS4 products from May 4 to May 13 and not after that. The dealerships currently have crores of unsold BS4 stock with the nationwide lockdown and decreased footfall being the major reasons for the same.
