The first unit of the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny is now on display at the Delhi NEXA showroom. Maruti is offering Jimny in two variants: Alpha and Zeta. It will be placed between Grand Vitara and Brezza in the brand’s lineup of compact and midsize SUVs. The new Jimny has a ladder on the frame chassis and Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro four-wheel drive (4WD) as standard.
A 1.5 litre K15B petrol engine powers the 5-door Jimny and it produces a max power of 103 hp and a peak torque of 134 Nm. The K15B petrol engine comes with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed torque converter automatic unit. The output figures might look lower than that of the rival, Mahindra Thar, but the power-to-weight ratio of Jimny is the same, because of its lower kerb weight.
Maruti offers 7 colour schemes with the new Jimny – Bluish Black, Sizzling Red, Nexa Blue, Granite Gray, and Pearl Arctic White. The Sizzling Red with a Bluish Black roof and Kinetic Yellow with a Bluish Black roof are also there.
Bookings are open for Jimny on all Nexa portals, and they have already recorded over 30,000 bookings for Jimny. It is expected to launch in May 2023 and production will soon start at the company’s production plant. At the time of launch, we expect the Jimny to cost around 9 to 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
