Suzuki Intruder registered just 497 units in the month of November 2018. The overall fall was massive at 79% as November 2017 registered 2325 units of the motorcycle being sold across the country. Apart from the Access scooter and Hayabusa, every Suzuki product witness a downfall in comparison to the sales number last year. It seems like buyers were not interested in getting products other than commuters in the country. The cruiser is powered by the same 155.1cc, single cylinder engine, producing 14.6 BHP at 8000 rpm and 14 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The part sharing process made Intruder feel more like a sports cruiser as alloy wheels, tyres, front fender, console, and many other parts are visibly similar to the Gixxer series. The addition of weight came through huge panels and a different fuel tank. The Suzuki Intruder comes with ABS as standard while fuel injection is available for INR 7000. The SP variants available currently are nothing more than cosmetic upgrades for the bike. The cruiser DNA is enhanced with the forward-set foot pegs, impressive seating position and huge front headlight with unique handlebar position and well-placed console.
Suzuki is planning to achieve 1 million yearly sales target but the performance of Gixxer and Intruder is making things harder for the brand. Gixxer is placed in 30,000 units per month segment that is primarily captured by Yamaha FZ, Honda CB Hornet and Bajaj Pulsar. Suzuki Gixxer doesn’t even account for 10% of the sales. The introduction of ABS to all models was achieved by Suzuki a few weeks ago while their key rival Yamaha enjoys non-ABS benefit before April 1, 2019. The huge numbers for the Intruder 150 were only seen in the initial months as buyers went back to the Gixxer in almost no time.
