Piaggio has officially revealed another limited-edition and ultra-exclusive scooter under the Vespa series. Known as Vespa 946 Christian Dior, the new model has been designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director of Dior women’s collections.
The scooter is available in an exclusive shade made by Dior’s creative department while the Vespa 946 Christian Dior further features golden accents on a lot of the components. Some of the key highlights include real blue-leather on the seat with ‘ton sur ton’ seams, seat support with a “Dior Monogram” original fabric upholstery, Christian Dior Paris logo on the right-side panel, and the brand is also offering some matching accessories along with the scooter.
The Vespa 946 Christian Dior is powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 3-valve engine producing 11.6 HP of power and 10.7 Nm of torque. The engine is air-cooled and fuel-injected while the gearbox is a centrifugal dry clutch automatic transmission. The scooter is further equipped with traction control and 2-channel ABS while its top speed is 93 kmph. The claimed fuel efficiency figure is 50 kmpl for the Vespa 946 Christian Dior. The scooter features an LCD instrument console and LED headlight/taillight.
Piaggio has not revealed the price of the Vespa 946 Christian Dior as of yet. To jog your memory, the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani, another premium offering from the scooter manufacturer, was launched in India back in November 2016 at a price tag of INR 12.05 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). Outside India, it was available for USD 10,999. According to the brand, the Vespa 946 Christian Dior will go on sale in Spring 2021 through Dior boutiques around the world and subsequently at selected Piaggio Group’s Motoplex stores.
Michele Colaninno, CEO of the Immsi Group and Piaggio’s Chief of Product and Marketing Strategy, said, “In these unprecedented times, it is great to be able to dream of a better future. The House of Dior opened its doors in 1946 in Paris, the same year that Vespa made its debut in Italy. This new Vespa 946 celebrates that anniversary and honours our heritage. Today, like yesterday, we have gone through a dark period and now we are joining forces to share some joie de vivre through a combination of style and craftsmanship. This partnership between Vespa and Dior represents a celebration of beauty.”
Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director of Dior’s women’s collections, said, “I was very excited about this project with Vespa. For me, Vespa is linked to my city, Rome. It’s linked to the freedom to move around the city with ease, like in the film Roman Holiday (1953), which has left that extraordinary image of Audrey Hepburn clinging to Gregory Peck on a Vespa forever etched in our collective memory. I have so many happy memories starring a Vespa. It’s how my husband and I used to get around Rome and go to the seaside in Fregene. It’s a symbol of Italian-ness that is intricately linked to my personal history, and it’s now part of my professional life at Dior.”
