UM Renegade series of cruisers have undergone a price revision and the new price tags for the motorcycles have gone up by INR 8,000 for the Sport S and INR 5,000 for the Commando. The new prices for the bikes are INR 1.57 lakh for Renegade Sport S and INR 1.64 lakh for Renegade Commando. The prices are effective from January 1, 2017 and valid for ex-showroom Delhi. Most of the brands have hiked the prices from their products from the new year.
Price Hike for Renegade Commando and Renegade Sport S
The official reason for the hike was stated as the rising cost of raw material and operating costs. The motorcycles are locally manufactured under a joint venture between Lohia Auto and UM Global in Uttrakhand. The Renegade series is powered by 279.5cc, single cylinder engine producing 24.8 BHP at 8500 rpm and 21.8 Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and claims a top speed of 125 kmph.
The motorcycles were not that efficient when tested by various publications and the built quality was not even upto the price segment. The recent hike could even discourage riders for spending around INR 1.57 lakh on a Renegade while they can even buy a more powerful and feature-loaded Bajaj Dominar 400 for just INR 1.36 lakh and Bajaj is also offering ABS-equipped Dominar for INR 1.50 lakhs. Also, rivals like Royal Enfield offer much more on an even low price tag of INR 1.31 lakh for the Classic 350.
