KTM was expected to showcase the lightweight Adventure and Duke series at the Intermot 2016 while they came up with the 2017 heavyweights to the show, which included 1090 and 1290 series of motorcycles. KTM unveiled the two motorcycles in the 1090 Adventure series and three in the 1290 Super Adventure lineup.
KTM 1090 Adventure and 1090 Adventure R uses the same 1050cc, 75 degree V-Twin motor producing 125 BHP on both the bikes. However, the option of 95 BHP variant and even a 47 BHP variant (for A2 license holders) is available on the 1090 Adventure. The first one is a mild motorcycle with Black frame, 19inch/17inch tyre combo with alloy wheels and even a reduced seat height of 850 mm.
The 1090 Adventure R is a true off-roader with 890 mm of seat height, 21 inch front and 18 inch rear wheel with spoked heavy duty rims, 220 mm of travel for all terrain drive-ability, 4-riding modes, slipper clutch, dual 320 mm Brembo disc brakes and many more.
1290 Adventure Series of motorcycles are differentiated with the letters S, R and T. The engine on all three is the same 160 BHP unit while the purpose stays the same as the above stated 1090 Adventure models. The Super Adventure S is mild, tarmac friendly version while the R here uses the same orange theme and comes with host of features for practical all terrain drives.
The T here is for Travel and mixes the components of both the motorcycles, providing the perfect combination for on as well as off-road travel. It is actually the same model which is currently on sale but with a Euro 4 complaint engine. Indian launch is still doubtful for these bikes.
