Hero MotoCorp is a well-known two-wheeler manufacturer that plans to enter the Indian EV industry soon. Vida, the company’s new sub-brand under which all of its electric two-wheelers will be sold, has already been launched. Vida’s official release stated that its first electric two-wheeler will be available on July 1, 2022. However, according to the brand’s most recent announcement, the launch has been postponed until this year’s holiday season, around Diwali 2022.
The only explanation for this delay is the continuing global semiconductor scarcity, which has caused many other two-wheeler launches and deliveries to be postponed in recent months. Notably, this is the second time Hero’s EV launch has been postponed; it was originally scheduled to debut in March 2022.
Although it has not been verified, Hero’s first EV will most likely be an electric scooter, as shown in an image released in August of last year. All we can tell from the image is that it seems unusual, modern, and larger than most other electric scooters on the market in India. The spotted scooter was most likely the final prototype, as it appeared to be production-ready.
Hero MotoCorp intends to sell Vida-branded electric two-wheelers in chosen overseas regions besides India. According to an interview with one of the company’s top executives, these EVs will be sold in Europe, Latin America, and a few other areas.
