Honda is one of those few manufacturers that are creating all new segments in the Indian market. They are placing their high end products closer to the lower segment by bringing them as CKD’s for the country. The second product to enter the same league is Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin and it would make its entry into India around the mid of 2017. The motorcycle is made at Kumamoto facility of Honda in Japan while recent earthquakes resulted in production halt for the Africa Twin. This led to some delay for its international delivery.
Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L India Launch by Mid-2017
The news has been officially confirmed by Mr YS Guleria, Honda’s Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing. Even when bringing the same via CKD route, the bike will carry minimum amount of localization but would get relief from the high taxation that comes through the CBU route. Honda did the same with CBR650F and launched it in August 2015, nearly one and a half year after the Auto Expo 2016. They can execute the same plan as it will take tie for Honda to train employees in India for the assembly of the adventure machine.
Honda Africa Twin is powered by a 998cc engine, producing 92.61 BHP at 7500 rpm and 98 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. The motorcycle offers 250 mm of ground clearance and comes with relatively high 850/870 mm of adjustable seat height. It is best suited for riders who prefer off-road riding and need a bike that can move over any terrain. The motorcycle uses 21 inch front while its rear wheel is 18 inch in diameter. It would be priced around INR 13-14 lakh, making it a strict rival to the Triumph Tiger series. It even offers ABS and DCT as an option.
