Yamaha discontinued the YZF-R3 in India as Indian government imposed a ban on the sale of BS3 vehicles in India from April 1. Yamaha also removed the R3 from their official website in India. It was being imported as a knocked-down kit from Indonesia and was not BS4 ready. This was quite disappointing as even Benelli has entered the segment with 302R on sale in the country.
As per the latest details available, Yamaha is working on BS4 variant of R3 in Indonesia and its updated model will be launched in India by December 2017. The new edition is expected to carry new shades and graphic enhancements while the engine would stay the same 321 cc, 2-cylinder unit. Though the chances are too thin, Yamaha might also introduce ABS as an option in India.
2017 YZF-R3 comes with amazing shades (Matt Grey, Matt Black) in selective markets and the return of Racing Blue is a sure shot fact for India. Yamaha offers the same on all sport series motorcycles. The White shade with Yellow graphics even look exciting from every angle. Engine of Yamaha R3 comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox while addition of slipper clutch is the next big possibility. The additions and changes in the motorcycle will definitely result in higher price tag.
Apart from Yamaha R3, company even removed the long selling FZ16 from the official website. Its discontinuation has been confirmed as the old 153 cc engine was not converted to BS4 compliant version. The Yamaha FZ family is now fully fuel injected while SZ-RR uses the same engine with carburetor setup. They have updated the shade for every existing product except the most loved Yamaha motorcycle, the R15.
