Yamaha Motor India started exports for the popular FZ25 last month, delivering 1163 units in total for the first quarter of FY18. The Indian made motorcycle is now on sale in Sri Lanka, Philippines, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia.
The number is actually very small when compared to the overall export number of Yamaha bikes. FZ25 was well received in India with 3584 units being sold in the first month of its arrival. Yamaha India’s overall plans for export products seem pretty clear with an expected 2.2 lakh units for FY18. This number would be much higher than those 1.6 lakh units that were moved in FY17.
The current lineup saw considerable changes in terms of pricing after the introduction of GST slabs. Yamaha reduced the price of FZ25 after downfall of taxes and thus, it can now be bought for a lower price than the one that was announced at its time of launch. It uses the same engine as Brazil spec Fazer 250 but had an all new design for more resemblance to the MT series. This made Yamaha FZ25 sharper and better than the Brazilian model. However, the 249cc oil cooled and fuel injected motor is still good for 20.9 PS at 8000 rpm and 20 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
Yamaha FZ25 weighs just 148 kg and rivals none other than much expensive KTM 250 Duke and Benelli TNT25. This makes it safe among the competition with a price difference of more than INR 50,000.
FZ25 is the only locally produced motorcycle to claim an under 10 second 0-100 kmph sprint. The lack of ABS was once felt but since no other motorcycle in the segment offer that safety feature, FZ25 was even forgiven for this deed. Currently, buyers can choose between Ballistic Blue, Knight Black and Warrior White from the shade lineup. Apart from that, Yamaha has even used a full LED headlight on the FZ25.
