Yamaha XSR155 Not Coming to India Anytime Soon [It’s Official]

Yamaha XSR155 is one of the most-awaited 150cc-segment bikes and since its launch in Indonesia and Thailand back in 2019, we have been getting a lot of queries regarding its launch in the Indian markets. Finally, we have an official update and as of now, Yamaha has no plans to launch the XSR155 in India and the brand is going to focus on the recently launched FZ-X neo-retro motorcycle.

As per a recent report by Autocar, Yamaha is aware of the demand for the XSR155 in India but according to the brand, the FZ-X has been specially made for India, based on the Indian customer requirement and it is a more suitable product for the Indian markets when compared to the XSR155. Here is the official statement by Ravinder Singh, senior vice president – sales and marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd:

“Based on our surveys, we found this bike (FZ-X) to be the most suitable, from a cost and market penetration point of view. We find that this is more relevant for the Indian market and matching the Indian market requirement.”

“At this moment we are not thinking about the XSR, our first focus is to create a separate segment for the FZ-X, which is a new category in the Indian two-wheeler space. We plan to strengthen our position in this segment with the FZ-X”, he added.

To jog your memory, Yamaha XSR155 was launched back in August 2019 in Thailand at a price tag of 91,500 Thai Baht (INR 2.13 lakh, approximate) while is a part of the brand’s “Sports Heritage” lineup. Powering the Yamaha XSR155 is a 155cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine borrowed from the R15 V3 and is capable of generating maximum power of 18.6 HP @ 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14.1 Nm @ 8500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Coming to the neo-retro design language, the Yamaha XSR155 features a round headlight at the front while the rear has been equipped with an LED tail lamp setup. The brand has equipped the motorcycle with an all-digital instrument console that displays all the necessary readings including the gear-position indicator.
