Classic Legends, a brand owned by Mahindra, has been rumoured to be working on the comeback of Yezdi and BSA bikes in the Indian market since 2018. As per the latest buzz, the new-gen Yezdi motorcycles will reportedly launch in India next year. Yezdi is a very popular brand name that was originally introduced in India in 1969. It was announced in the country with a tagline that said,” Forever Bike, Forever Value” and this captured the minds of numerous bike enthusiasts.
Mahindra-owned Classic Legends has also brought back the Jawa Motorcycles and a similar story is set to be repeated with Yezdi. In its era, it was a brand name loved by all the bike enthusiasts and mechanics. It’s sporty, quick, and light to handle motorcycles created a vogue. The popularity of Yezdi grew multiple times when its motorcycles were used in a number of Bollywood movies.
Although there has been no official notification from the company’s side other than the official website of Yezdi motorcycles claiming in the last line saying, ”This sleeping giant has now rubbed its eyes and is now waking up… the ride will be a lot more fun once again”.
The official website of Yezdi has been active on the internet since July 2017 but currently, it contains information only about the legendary classic motorcycles. Speculations have been touring the internet that the newer models by the brand are expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo in February 2020.
These conjectures are a result of Classic Legend’s acquisition of rights to use Yezdi and BSA brand names for the Asian market that also includes India. This venture of the Classic Legends for the resurrection of another iconic motorcycle brand after Jawa can be expected to be positive as Yezdi and Jawa motorcycles already have a strong fan following in India.
Despite no confirmation, it can be expected that the brand will most probably equip the Yezdi motorcycles with the same 293cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine. It is also being said that the upcoming Yezdi motorcycles could also be equipped with a re-tuned 250cc version of this engine.
The bikes can be expected to be available at very competitive prices as Yezdi and Jawa motorcycles will share a lot of components which will further help the brand in reducing the production cost. At present, the Jawa motorcycle range starts at INR 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom).
