Tata Nano Sales Drop: Just 57 Units Sold in October 2017!

Massive Drop in Tata Nano Sales: Tata Nano recently posted a sales figure of just 57 units in October 2017. This is a huge drop as Tata posted 726 units of sales in October last year. Nano is falling short of buyers as a recent report hinted of Tata producing just 2 units of Nano everyday.

This equates to 60 production units a month and a total loss statement for the brand. Dealerships are not willing to receive Nano stocks and Tata Motors itself has no intentions of working on a BS6 compliant engine for the car.

The car may get discontinued before April 2020 and even before that, it could vanish from majority of dealerships. The product was a revolution in itself but for this sort of experiment, the market was not mature enough in 2008. India needed a car but not at the sake of getting the cheapest car tag.

The promised price tag of INR 1 lakh was not practical as it sounded more like a dream than reality. The base car missed on almost everything and that further fueled the downfall.

Government should have given a lower tax zone to Nano, or even any other product that could be made around this tag, if they ever wanted their citizens to enjoy a relaxed car ride with lesser initial cost.

A sub 750cc engine category or a length clause could have helped the nation’s car get loads of buyers in India. Tata Motors should have kept the tag around INR 1.5 lakh as that even makes the Nano almost INR 1 lakh lower than the next car.

More than all, it could have been addressed as the people’s car (not is the Volkswagen’s way) rather than being the cheapest car. All in all, these were the things of past and Tata Motors have moved ahead with a much more successful car (Tiago) in their lineup. Nano’s frame will be used by Jayem to manufacture the Neo electric car in India.
