Xiaomi Beats Samsung to Become India’s No. 1 Smartphone Brand

Xiaomi Beats Samsung in India: Xiaomi has successfully made itself the most selling smartphone brand of India, pushing Samsung behind to the second spot after such a long time. The report was published by International Data Corporation, taking into account top 50 Indian cities that further count almost 50% of the smartphone sales of India.

The report is based on Q3 sales of 2017 and list Samsung, Lenovo, Oppo and Vivo as second to fifth ranking brand respectively. Detailed report claimed that Xiaomi has 26.5% of market share with almost 120 percent growth in this quarter. Redmi Note 4 was the highest selling product with almost 40% volume in total sales.

Xiaomi has also moved into offline stores and that further helped them claim sales for selected models. They have sold almost 1 million Redmi 5A devices that cost as low as INR 4999 for the 2GB/16GB variant. After selling 5 million units, they will increase the price to INR 5999.

Samsung saw an increase of 15% in quarter wise sales but could not win this time with 24.1% of market share. Samsung still has the widest range of products when seen in terms of offline stores. They dominate the Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Lenovo, which also includes Motorola range of phones, is now third with just 8% growth from their last quarter. They have a wide range of smartphones in INR 6k-15k price bracket, dominated by their powerful Moto G5S Plus.

Buyers still consider buying impressively packed products like Lenovo K6 Note and Moto E4 Plus. Oppo A71 is a popular model among Tier 1 city buyers while Vivo F3 and F3 Plus brought numbers to the brand. The competition in smartphone market has grown many folds, specially in the products that fall under INR 15,000 price tag.
