The much-awaited product from the Indian mainstream brand, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has been officially unveiled today at an event. With the unveiling of its debut electric scooter, the brand has registered itself as the first Indian motorcycle brand to enter into electric scooter segment.
The Chetak electric scooter has been unveiled under the Urbanite moniker while the reincarnation of the Chetak nameplate after 14 years has landed the electric scooter with a host of attention. As per the details available, Bajaj Auto will launch the new Chetak in the Indian market in January next year.
Coming to the unique styling, the all-new Bajaj Chetak features a retro-inspired look with curvy side panels. The brand has offered the scooter with a wide apron look upfront while the overall sleeker design makes it stand out from the rest of the offerings in the Indian scooter segment.
Bajaj Auto has equipped the new model of the Chetak with an IP67-rated lithium-ion battery mated to a 4kW electric motor while the scooter has two riding modes: Eco and Sport. The brand is also offering a reverse-assist feature on its latest product.
The e-scooter features a single-sided trailing arm unit at the front while the rear has been equipped with a monoshock unit. The braking duties are handled by a front disc brake and a rear drum brake while the scooter has been equipped with multi-spoke 12-inch alloy wheels nestled in MRF Zapper-K tubeless tyres.
The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter features LED headlight with LED DRLs surrounding it in a round pattern. The brand has offered the all-new scooter with a cantilever seat setup for maximum practicality while the body panels have been devoid of any graphics to accentuate its retro design.
In addition to this, the e-scooter has been equipped with a fully-digital instrument panel while gets Blue, Ivory, Gold, and Red as the colour options. The brand is yet to disclose the pricing of the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter though one can expect them to price it competitively.
Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto was quoted as saying, “I hesitate to call it an aggressive price, but we’ll price it attractively. It’s not going to be as high as Rs 1.5 lakh.”
The recently revealed e-scooter from Bajaj will compete with the likes of scooters from Ather, Okinawa, Ampere, and 22 Motors in the Indian market. The detailed technical specifications and other mechanical bits will be revealed by the brand in the coming days.
