Jeep Compass Recalled In India Over Airbag Issue: Jeep Compass, the most appealing model that one can find in FCA’s India lineup, is preparing for a recall due to faulty passenger side airbag. The total number of affected cars is 9200 worldwide.
India spec Jeep Compass, manufactured between September 5 and November 19, will fall under the recall list. Total number of affected Indian cars is estimated at 1200 units while 7000 units of the same car will be recalled in the US. Even Canadian and Mexican market has 1000 affected cars in total. The company has suggested the owners to avoid using front passenger seat till the issue is solved.
The replacement drive will offer free of cost service to all the owners. Loose fasteners of the airbag module can be hazardous to the front passenger in case of an accident. Jeep India will contact the owners and clarify the details regarding this recall.
SIAM claims that Jeep has sold 7561 units of Compass till October 2017. It was one popular option in cars of that segment as buyers even loved getting the top spec variant that costs INR 21.37 lakh (ex-showroom). The popular SUV comes with all wheel drive as optional on the top spec model.
Automatic gearbox is presently limited to the petrol engine on the Jeep Compass. Class leading performance from the Jeep makes it a desirable option among cars like Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan. Petrol Compass is powered by a 1368cc, turbocharged petrol engine producing 162 PS and 250 Nm of torque.
Buyers can choose between 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic gearbox. Diesel engine on the Compass is an even more powerful one, producing 173 PS and 350 Nm of maximum torque. It is presently offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It comes with a 60 liter fuel tank, further claiming a healthy 17.1 kmpl of mileage from the diesel powered variant.
